Learning To Sew

Introduction

Impact Zambia is dedicated to empowering communities and fostering sustainable development. Our mission is helping rural churches and communities flourish by providing leadership and skills training.

Impact Zambia is a facilitating organization between iTeams Canada, the churches, organizations and donor communities here and then the work in Zambia.

The “Share Your Knowledge” Program, which began as a sewing initiative by two sisters in 2001 expanded and has become a formalized program with International Teams Canada (iTeams Canada) and a partnership with New Life Tabernacle and Cell Ministries (NLT).

iTeams Canada adds velocity to the work of established leaders with a vision to transform their communities. Impact programs are comprised of three communities uniquely positioned to contribute to the programs overall impact, which includes:

  1. An implementing community headed by the local leadership
  2. A partnership community of supportive businesses, schools, community groups and funding organizations
  3. iTeams Canada community including a volunteer program champion

iTeams slogan: Lives and communities transformed by the power of God.

iTeams Canada facilitates their work by sending teams, and letting them come back to share and tell the stories they experienced and be advocates for that community.

Currently, we are helping to establish the Life Impact Training Centre through funding, planning, sourcing expertise and keeping them in our prayers.

History and Background

Impact Zambia’s roots began in 2001 when the “Share Your Knowledge” program was founded by two sisters who wanted to create change in Zambia by teaching women to sew in Zambia’s most remote and difficult environments. Over the years, this initiative continued with a few outreaches a year from South Africa, touching countless lives. It became clear a more sustainable solution was needed that could reach even more people throughout the year – a training centre.

Core Values

Our core values of integrity, community, and sustainability guide everything we do. We believe in transparent and ethical practices, fostering a sense of unity and mutual support within communities, and implementing sustainable solutions that ensure long-term benefits. These values are the foundation of our work, driving us to make a meaningful impact every day.

Programs and Initiatives

Impact Zambia’s programs are designed to address various community needs. Our sewing initiatives, for instance, have enabled many women to gain valuable skills, earn a livelihood, and achieve financial independence. From the informal Share Your Knowledge programs in sewing, carpentry, and counselling, to formalized offerings at the Life Impact Training Centre, our programs focus on educational and vocational training programs, in addition to personal development, and health and wellness workshops.

Community and Partners

Collaboration is key to our success. We work closely with local and international partners, including NGOs, government agencies, Rotary International, and private sector organizations. Leadership for programs comes from the New Life Tabernacle & Cell Ministries (NLT), with Daniel and Florence Mayapi as leaders. These partnerships enhance our capacity to deliver comprehensive services and reach more people. Our community involvement is equally important; we actively engage with local leaders and residents to ensure our programs are relevant and impactful. The real impact is seen in people whose lives were transformed.

Future Goals

Looking ahead, we aim to expand our reach and deepen our impact. While we are working on the development of the Life Impact Training Centre, the “Share your Knowledge” training and church leadership development continue on the LITC site as resources allow it.

We are excited about the future and committed to continuing our mission of empowerment and development.
